Kimberly Hardison, 47, of Lilesville was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Thursday.

The accident occurred on Grassy Island Road near Ansonville, and was discovered by Wildlife Officer J.D. Bricken, who was doing a routine check of the area, said Janet Ross with the N.C. Highway Patrol’s Monroe office.

The Highway Patrol responded to the scene just before noon. Hardison was dead on the scene, Ross said. “The driver was the only one in the vehicle,” Ross added.

According to the accident report, Hardison was traveling east on Grassy Island Road in a 2006 Ford pickup truck at a high rate of speed and ran off the road to the right. The vehicle struck a ditch and became airborne, also striking a tree. Hardison was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest on the shoulder of the road.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the wreck, according to the accident report.

Hardison was the wife of Jay Hardison, and had two sons and two grandchildren. She was employed with Domtar Papermill in Bennettsville, S.C.
