All interested citizens are invited to celebrate the formal recognition of the new tri-county Farm and Food Council and the introduction of its new board on Oct. 23 from 2:30-4 p.m., at Stanly Community College’s Albemarle Campus, 141 College Drive.

The council, serving Anson, Montgomery and Stanly counties, is a citizen-based organization with the vision of a sustainable, locally-based, economically resilient farm and food system.

A farm and food system is a network of people, organizations, associated government and non-government institutions and activities connecting the growing and harvesting, processing, distribution, consumption and residue utilization of food and other farm products.

The mission of the Council is to encourage, support and coordinate the local farm and food system in the areas of agriculture, economic development, education, accessibility and health.

The agenda will include special speaker, Teisha Wymore, NCSU state coordinator of the NC 10% Campaign, and updates from recent tri-county initiatives relating to the work of the Farm and Food Council.

The meeting will take place in the Dennis Community Room in the Patterson Building of the SCC campus. Directions can be found on the SCC website.
