Morven Mayor Theodore Carr will attempt his second walk from Morven to LadybugFamily Restaurant in Wadesboro on Saturday, Nov. 12.

All participants will meet at the Morven Truck Stop on U.S. Highway 52 at 6:15 a.m. for devotion and prayer. The journey will begin at 6:30 a.m. If it rains, the walk will be rescheduled for Nov. 19.

The mayor, along with 14 participants — Commissioners Vancine Sturdivant and Ross Streater, Morven town Councilwoman Margie Cole and Assistant Clerk Carolyn Rosebud — completed the first walk in September for Carr’s 80th birthday.

As of Oct. 25, 45 participants had committed to walk. All county residents who wish to participate can contact Sturdivant and meet the group at the truck stop. No fees are required.

While a sergeant in the armed forces, Carr was in charge of physical training, called the daily dozen, which consisted of 12 different exercises performed in 12 repetitions. By remaining healthy and earning a certain score, officers would earn a monetary award.

Each participant is asked to bring a partner. Vans and water will be available if a walker needs a break.

Carr has also issued a challenge to Sheriff Landric Reid to join him.

“A full buffet breakfast, paid for by Carr, awaits every walker at Ladybug Restaurant in Wadesboro.

To participate, contact Carr or call Sturdivant at 704-848-4412.
