The Ada Ford Singleton Humanitarian Award was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Artis Willoughby Sr., in honor of their son, the late Artis Willoughby Jr., for unselfish and dedicated service to those in need — often going out of his way to help others with auto repairs, food, clothing, supplies, locating affordable housing, financial needs and more.

Singleton, a former president of the Anson County’s NAACP for thirty years, always stressed and encouraged the importance of helping and serving those in need. Therefore, this award was presented by the chairman, the Rev. Charles Ford, Sr. and co-chairman, Charles Ford, Jr., of the Ada Ford Singleton Biography Committee on Sunday, Jan. 15 at the Gatewood Station A.M.E. Zion Church under the pastoral leadership of the Rev. David Richardson.
