Wadesboro police arrested two people last week on weapons and alcohol charges.

David Neal, 60, of Madison Avenue and Juretha Tanner, 61, of South Avenue, were arrested Friday.

Neal was charged with felony possession of a firearm by a felon as well as possession non-tax paid liquor, possessing and/or selling an alcoholic beverage without a permit and simple possession of marijuana, all misdemeanors.

Records show Neal’s convictions in North Carolina date back to 1995. Since then, he has been convicted of driving with a revoked license in Richmond County, possessing Schedule II drugs and driving while impaired.

He was released from prison in 2005 after serving time for using and/or possessing drug paraphernalia. He received probation in 2010 for driving while impaired and driving while his license was revoked, according to state records.

Neal’s secured bond was set at $10,000. He is due to appear in court on Nov. 17.

Tanner was charged with possessing non-tax paid liquor and possessing and/or selling an alcoholic beverage with no permit, both misdemeanors.

She has no prior convictions in North Carolina.

Tanner is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12.

Officers with the Wadesboro Police Department and N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement agents made the arrests, executing two search warrants at the separate homes, according to a release from Wadesboro Police Capt. Brandon Chewning.

The department sized an undisclosed amount of alcohol and untaxed alcohol from both houses, and weapons from Neal’s house, according to the release.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
