Copies of the draft compatibility determination for the N.C. Department of Transportation’s request to amend a right-of-way permit for relocation of Bridge No. 8 on Pinkston River Road are available for public review and comment until Feb. 8, Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge manager J.D. Bricken said Monday.

The utility corridor relocation proposed will be conducted on the Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge. Comments are being sought on the benefits and impacts from amending the existing right-of-way permit.

Federal wildlife refuges are required by law to determine the compatibility of any proposed non-wildlife dependent use with the mission of the national wildlife refuge system and the purpose for which a particular refuge was established.

“The mission of Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge is to protect migratory birds and other native wildlife and their breeding grounds and habitat for the benefit of the American people,” Bricken said in a written statement. “We want the community to be informed about the work being proposed and to have an opportunity to weigh in on the pros and cons of that work.”

Copies of the document are available at the wildlife refuge at 5770 U.S. 52 North, Wadesboro, and at the Anson County Public Library.
