MONROE (AP) — Anson County’s state representative says he’s running this spring to become one of North Carolina’s members on the Republican National Committee.
Rep. Mark Brody, R-Union, announced Feb. 2 his candidacy for RNC committeeman at the state party convention in May. The party chooses a committeeman and committeewoman every four years. Current members are Salisbury physician Ada Fisher and state Rep. David Lewis of Dunn.
Brody says he’ll take a firm stand to uphold conservative values if elected and won’t back down to political pressures if elected.
Some GOP activists have criticized Lewis in recent months for legislative actions related to the voter identification law and campaign finance changes. But the party’s executive committee members last month stopped an effort by some requesting impeachment proceedings begin against Lewis.
