POLKTON — Police arrested a Monroe man after accusing him of going 50 m.p.h. over the speed limit and lying about his identity to avoid charges.

Robbie Rakim Harris Jr., 28, of Monroe, was allegedly traveling 105 mph in a 55 mph zone on U.S. Highway 74 East on May 28 when he was pulled over, according to arrest warrants.

Harris then told police that his name was Carlos D’Eunta Horton and provided them with Horton’s birthday, address and criminal history in order to avoid being charged with speeding or arrested for numerous outstanding warrants, according to the warrants. He also allegedly used a revoked registration number plate.

Harris was then charged with using a revoked registration number plate, providing fictitious information to an officer, speeding, reckless driving to endanger, driving while his license was revoked and identity theft, a felony.

He was booked in the Anson County Jail under a combined $5,000 secured bond.

Harris is an absconder from parole/probation supervision, according to records from the North Carolina Department of Corrections. His conviction record began in 2008 with drug possession charges. He was most recently convicted of simple assault, a misdemeanor, in October 2015 and given a suspended sentence of 12 months of probation.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
