A Wadesboro woman was arrested after she allegedly assaulted a handicapped person.

Argie Victoria Garris, 49, hit a handicapped individual in the head with her fist before stealing $40 from him on June 2, according an arrest warrant.

She was charged with assaulting a handicapped person and larceny, both misdemeanors.

Garris was booked in the Anson County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 28.

Garris was convicted in 2007 for possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, according to records from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
