POLKTON — Officials arrested an Anson County man after they say he assaulted a woman on Sunday.

Japarris Jamar Harrington, 23, of Polkton, is accused of assaulting a 20-year-old female victim.

Harrington allegedly held the woman to the bed, hitting her face with his fist, until she was able to stand. He then held her against the wall, took her back to the bed and held her down, according to the arrest warrants.

The victim “kicked and yelled until someone called for help,” according to the incident report. She reported that she sustained no injuries from the assault.

Harrington was charged with felonious restraint and misdemeanor assault on a female. He was booked in the Anson County Jail under no bond, ordered to not assault the prosecuting witness and was given a copy of a firearm notice, according to the conditions of release. He was ordered to be held until the next term of court when conditions of pre-trial release could be determined.

He is scheduled to appear in court July 7.

State records show that Harrington was convicted of a 2008 misdemeanor larceny in 2009.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
