POLKTON — A Chesterfield County man was arrested after police say he assaulted a woman with a knife, threatening to kill her if she left him.

Frankie Stover, 50, of Jefferson, S.C. was arrested July 4 after he allegedly attacked a Polkton victim, “striking the victim with his hand on her chest, attempting to stab her with a knife and attempting to smother her with a pillow,” according to the arrest warrant.

Stover used both a butcher and a steak knife in the attack, holding the knives to the victim and attempting to smother her, saying, “I love you so much I’ll kill you if you leave me,” according to the warrant.

The fight started when Stover was ready to go to bed and the victim said she wasn’t ready to go, according to the domestic incident report she filed. He then pulled out the knives, she said.

Stover also “tore up” two phones, preventing the victim from contacting police, according to the report. She reported that she suffered bruises from the attack.

Stover was charged with assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon, communicating threats, interfering with emergency communications and false imprisonment, all misdemeanors.

He was booked in the Anson County Jail with no bond and barred from contact with his alleged victim, visiting her residence, school or work and banned from having a gun. He is scheduled to appear in court July 21.

North Carolina records show that Stover has no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
