Deep Creek Baptist Church will sponsor a Health Fair on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Open to all, it will offer free services such as blood pressure checks and immunizations including influenza (flu) shots. Pneumonia shots (taken annually), and prevnar for adults (taken every five years) and other immunizations such as TDAP and shingles will be available. Organizers ask the participants bring Medicare or other insurance cards.

A Red Cross Blood Drive is scheduled from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. Identification must be provided and 16 year olds must have parental consent. Anyone from ages 17 to 100 may give but must weigh 110 pounds. Prior to donation, a mini physical is given — with readings of blood pressure, temperature and pulse, as well as checks for HIV, hepatitis and syphllis. Private contacts are made for any abnormality in these tests.

Sugar and cholesterol tests will be offered and a nutritionist will be available to talk with participants about proper diet.

In addition appointments can be made for mammograms at a local hospital and experts will be available to provide information on organ and bone marrow donation.
