PEACHLAND — A man was charged with statutory rape after he was accused of having sex with a child for several months.

Elliotte Lee Lowery, 22, of Peachland, allegedly had sex with a child under age 15.

Lowery allegedly had sex with the child beginning Feb. 2 and ending Sept. 1, according to the arrest warrant. He was arrested by an officer with the Monroe Police Department on Dec. 14.

Lowery was charged with felony statutory rape of a child under the age of 15 and is being held in the Anson County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond and ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.

Lowery has a criminal record dating back to October 2012, when he was convicted of felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny for cases in June and July of that year, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction. He was convicted of larceny again in 2015.

He is due to appear in court in Union County on Jan. 13 for operating a vehicle without a license, and in Anson County on Jan. 26 for statutory rape of a child under the age of 15.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
