An active shooter drill was held at South Piedmont Community College’s Lockhart-Taylor Center in June.

The drill replicated several real-life scenarios that allowed SPCC leadership and local emergency services to practice emergency preparedness and test response plans.

The goal of the drill was to provide training and education to enhance the safety of students, visitors and the community in the event of an actual emergency at a SPCC facility

Local law enforcement participated in the drill, along with SPCC faculty and staff.

Personnel from South Piedmont Community College, Anson County Emergency Management, Wadesboro Police Department, Anson County Sheriff’s Office, Anson County 911, Polkton Police Department and Lilesville Police Department participated in the drill.

WADESBORO — South Piedmont Community College, in partnership with Anson County Emergency Management, Wadesboro Police Department, Anson County Sheriff’s Office, Anson County 911, Polkton Police Department and Lilesville Police Department, held an active shooter drill on June 18 at the college’s Lockhart-Taylor Center in Wadesboro.

The exercise involved several real-life scenarios that allowed SPCC leadership and local emergency services to practice emergency preparedness and test response plans. The goal of the drill was to provide training and education to enhance the safety of students, visitors and the community in the event of an actual emergency at a SPCC facility.

South Piedmont’s Safety and Emergency Preparedness team will take the lessons learned from the exercise and use them to strengthen its emergency response plan. The team will also continue to work with local authorities in Union and Anson counties to ensure students, faculty and visitors to SPCC are safe.
