Gary Covington and THE MIXX entertained visitors at the Summer Jam on Friday.

Although Uptown Wadesboro, Inc., had to cancel its fireworks due to possible rain, a crowd still turned out for the Summer Jam band Friday.

Kids received glow-in-the-dark bands as everyone settled in to listen to Gary Covington and the MIXX, which was moved indoors to the Ansonia Theatre due to the uncertain weather.

The band encouraged the crowd to dance along to some songs as it played music from a variety of styles and decades, including The Commodores’ 1977 hit, “Brick House,” Marvin Gaye’s 1973 hit “Let’s Get It On,” the Temptations’ 1964 “My Girl,” and many more. The band even played Pharrell Williams’ 2013 hit, “Happy.”
