The Wadesboro Civitan Club, the oldest civic organization in Anson County, will accept applications for college scholarships from now through April 24. The club will award $1000 scholarships to four college-bound students from Anson this year.

Applicants will be judged on academic achievement and financial need. In addition, because good citizenship and community involvement are important Civitan goals, applications will also be judged on the evidence of students’ involvement — and leadership roles — in clubs, churches, extracurricular activities and charitable service to the community. A written essay addressing these activities and the individual applicant’s goals will provide further support in the evaluation process.

Finalists will be interviewed by the scholarship committee in May so that the awards can be announced at Anson Schools Awards Night on May 30.

Applications must be received on or before the deadline of April 24. Students may return the completed applications to their guidance counselors, or mail them directly to the Wadesboro Civitans at PO Box 751, Wadesboro, NC 28170. Late applications will not be accepted.

Application forms are available through the various high school guidance counselors, from the Hampton B. Allen Library, by telephoning Beverley Getzen at 704-694-7022, or sending an e-mail message to bbgetzen@gmail.com, chairperson of the Civitan Scholarship Committee.

Applicants may also write to the Wadesboro Civitan Club at PO Box 751, Wadesboro, NC, 28170 to request a copy of the instructions and form. The club welcomes the applications from all Anson County students, including those who are homeschooled.
