Anson County’s unemployment rate for August 2015 remains the same as July, at 7.1 percent, according to numbers released Wednesday morning by the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Labor and Economic Analysis Division.

The 7.1 percent rate translates to 778 of the county’s estimated workforce of 10,884 receiving unemployment benefits in August.

Anson was one of 10 counties in the state that saw no change in unemployment over the month, while 86 counties experienced a decrease in August.

Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate at 11.4 percent while Buncombe County had the lowest at 4.6 percent.

All of Anson’s neighboring counties saw decreases in unemployment over the month of August. The rates for Richmond and Union counties were down just 0.1 percent, to 8.6 percent and 5.2 percent, respectively, while Stanly’s rate of 5.8 percent was down 0.2 percent from July.

When compared to the same month last year, not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates decreased in 91 counties, increased in seven, and remained unchanged in two.

Statewide, the unemployment rate for August 2015 remained the same as the July 2015 rate, at 5.9 percent.

The next unemployment update is scheduled for Oct. 20, when the state unemployment rate

for September 2015 will be released
