South Piedmont Community College will hold several summer camp courses this year. These day camp courses are educational ways to keep teenagers engaged throughout the summer. SPCC staff and faculty will help students to learn more about the programs the school offers in Union and Anson counties. This year, SPCC will offer the following camps at the Monroe, Polkton and Waxhaw locations: Arts, Health/EMT, Cyber Camp, Solar and Energy, Intro to Auto Mechanics, Construction Trades, Advanced Manufacturing, Leadership Camp and others. Costs range from $0 to $100 depending on the course of study and duration. All camps include instruction, lunch, t-shirts and more. Anson County Parks and Recreation will hold registration for youth tackle football for children in grades 3-4 and 5-6. The cost is $30 per person. First Step Youth Basketball Camp will be open for boys and girls ages 6-18. The camp will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. The camp will be held at Falling Creek Gymnasium, located at 417 Hood Street, Rockingham. Children will learn the fundamentals about footwork, defense, ball handling and more and will have the opportunity to win prizes through a three-point contest, dunk contest, skills challenge and more. Burnsville Recreation and Learning Center will continue its annual summer Fun Day Camp for all children ages 5-16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. There will be planned activities daily and weekly outings to expose older campers to new ventures and to keep the children motivated. Older students will learn life skills. The Cheraw Arts Commission will hold its annual theater camp at the Theatre on the Green. Campers will learn basic acting skills, sing and dance during the week. UCA rules, safety measures and scoring will be adhered to. Prizes will be $400, $300, $200 and $100 for the top four teams competing in varsity, and $200, $150, $100 and $75 for junior varsity. Connections Family Support Program hosts a monthly family support group open to parents, grandparents and foster parents. This is a time for those with children who have behavioral, emotional and/or learning challenges to share their experiences and learn from others.
