WADESBORO — Sheriff’s deputies are searching for two men suspected of shooting and killing a 21-year-old in a Monday home invasion.
Anson County deputies said two intruders burst into a home off U.S. 52 near Anson Middle School and shot Dameon Yimaine Thomas multiple times as he sat on the couch with his girlfriend around 12:52 a.m.
Thomas died at the scene and the men were gone when deputies arrived minutes later. Thomas’s girlfriend gave investigators a description of the intruders.
“We’re trying to gather information on two black male suspects about who they may be,” sheriff’s Maj. Charlie Little said.
Deputies said the woman did not know why Thomas had been attacked.
Little and Anson sheriff’s Sgt. Donald Jenks said the intruders didn’t injure Thomas’ girlfriend and didn’t take anything from the home.
“We’re running some leads, but have no potential suspects at this point,” Little said.
Thomas’ family is mourning the young man’s loss and had strong words for the intruders.
“Anyone who comes into someone’s house and take their life, you are a coward. He has a mom, dad, sister and brothers and you can just take his life? That was senseless,” aunt Victoria Crowder told Daily Journal news partner WSOC-TV Channel 9.
State Bureau of Investigation agents are assisting deputies with the case. The Anson County Sheriff’s Office said the suspects are not believed to be a threat to the community.
