RALEIGH — Charlotte, the largest city in the Carolinas, has a population in excess of 800,000, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

In newly released population estimates for cities around the nation as of July 1 of last year, the bureau said that the numbers show there are now 10 cities in the nation with populations of more than 1 million people.

The numbers, which show that Charlotte has grown by 16,000 people in a year, reflect the city’s continuing breakneck growth and that the city’s population is now 810,000.

That’s an increase of about 16,000 over 2013 and an increase of more than 70,000 from the 2010 census, according to federal data.

Raleigh, the state’s second-most populous city, added about 8,000 new residents between 2013 and last year. That growth puts the capital’s population now at just under 440,000.

The town of Dellview, in Gaston County, was North Carolina’s smallest municipality, according to the data, registering only 13 residents.

Anson County’s population as of 2014 was 25,675 with a median household income of $33,870. Although the median household income remains the same, the population is down slightly from the 26,000 estimate in 2013, and down from 26,948 in 2010.

Individuals below poverty level in Anson County is at 24.2 percent, while 19.5 percent of people remain uninsured. There are a total of 11,515 housing units in Anson County, with 1,409 companies.

As of census data released in December, North Carolina has overtaken Michigan to become the nation’s ninth-largest state, adding more than 95,000 new residents between July 2013 and July 2014. That growth pushed the state’s total estimated population to just shy of 10 million.
