The daughter-in-law of one of the victims of a Christmas Day car accident has set up a benefit fund at PNC Bank to help with expenses.

Alexis Hooper, a 13-month-old from Gaston County, was killed in the wreck. Her father, Alexander Hooper, 24, was driving on U.S. 74 West from Hamlet to Gaston County near Morven Freight Line Road when his 2007 Volkswagen Jetta crossed the center line and hit the Davis’ 2001 Dodge Intrepid going eastbound, according to the accident report.

Saundra Davis was airlifted to CMC-Main after being extricated from a vehicle driven by her husband, Thomas Clay Davis. According to her daughter-in-law, Lynn Thomas, Davis suffered two broken arms, two broken legs, a crushed femur, crushed heel and also lost all of her top teeth in the accident.

Davis has had five surgeries and was just moved to rehab last Monday. “She’s really banged up, but she’s in pretty good spirits,” Thomas said. “She’s going to have to learn how to walk again and she’ll need facial reconstructive surgery.”

Thomas said that the benefit account is available at the Wadesboro branch of PNC Bank, under the name “FBO (for benefit of) Saundra Davis.” She said that donations should be able to be made at any PNC Bank.
