The United Way of Central Carolinas held a thank you reception Thursday afternoon at the Lockhart-Taylor Center in Wadesboro to thank the volunteers and donors who helped make the 2013 United Way campaign a success.

Anson County raised more than $87,000 during the campaign, all of which will stay within the county, divided among 12 partner agencies. “Thank you for your work to improve the community,” campaign chair and South Piedmont Community College president Dr. Stan Sidor told the crowd gathered for the reception. “You all did an outstanding job on this year’s campaign.”

The top 10 fundraisers were honored during the reception. They were: Premiere Fibers, Inc., Hornwood, Inc., South Piedmont Community College,Anson County Government, Anson County Public Schools, CMH Space Flooring Products, Inc., Anson Community Hospital, Uwharrie Bank, Pee Dee Electric, and the town of Polkton.

Scott Rivers, a member of the 2013 Community Investment Committee, explained that the committee had a tough time figuring out how to spend the money raised during the campaign. “I promise you, this money is not being thrown away,” he said. “Every single dollar we raise in Anson County comes back to Anson County agencies.”

Anson County’s United Way board of directors chair Lula Jackson closed out the ceremony by commending the United Way staff, volunteers and agencies. “Every little thing makes a difference,” she said. “Anson County is a great place to be, and we’re showing that every day.”
