Faith-Based Center of Hope’s “Back To School with Pride” event was held on Aug. 17 at Hatcher’s Park in Lilesville. Over 500 children were given school supplies, book bags and uniforms. Superintendent Michael Freeman, Town Councilwoman Juanita Williams, Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Bernice Bennett, Rev. Harvey Marsh, Mentor Inc. and other community leaders were present to assist with passing out the supplies.

Faith-Based Center of Hope CEO Vancine Sturdivant stated how good it makes her feel to see so many citizens come together for the betterment of our youth. House of Representative Mark Brody, HOLLA! CEO Leon Gatewood and Magistrate Judge Weaver Thomas came by to encourage the students to do their best.

“I want to thank everyone who played a part in making the ‘Back To School with Pride’ event a success,” Sturdivant said. “We have also passed out supply boxes to each school in our county worth over $300. My plea to ALL the community leaders and elected officials, to ALL citizens, especially our parents please get involved with our schools. Come to the school board meetings. Our youth are not our future, they are NOW and they need us.”
