The town of Lilesville will sponsor its fourth annual Catfish Stew Cookoff contest on March 15 at Hatcher Park. This year’s cookoff will also feature a stew of the chef’s choice. The cookoff will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with judging from 1-2 p.m. There is no entry fee, but all cooks must enter by March 12.
The Catfish Stew Cookoff winner will receive a $250 cash prize, with second place winning $100 and third place, $50. This year, a new panel of judges will select and crown a new cookoff champion. The stew of the cook’s choice will be judged by patrons, with a first place prize of $100. Second place will win $75, and third place, $50.
Those who aren’t cooking can join in the fun and root for their favorite team. They can also try their hand at being a judge, and for $5, can pick up a bowl and spoon and taste each entry. Complete rules and entry forms are available at Scotty’s Bait and Tackle, Lilesville Town Hall, all three Whit’s Convenience locations and the Old Store.
Vendor booths will be part of the fun again this year. If interested in setting up a booth, call the Lilesville Town Hall at 704-848-4711. Deadline for booths is also March 12.
Also at this year’s Catfish Stew Cookoff, a Miss Catfish and Master Catfish will be crowned for the best coloring of a catfish picture by girls and boys in grades K-3. Girls and boys in fourth through sixth grades can win prizes for the best colored drawing of a catfish.
In addition, a corn hole tournament will also be part of this year’s festivities. Contact the Lilesville Town Hall for details.
