The Centralina Workforce Development Board is proud to announce the opening of a new NCWorks Career Center in Anson County. And, to remove the image of what some called the “unemployment office.”

The Anson County Career Center is now located at the Lockhart-Taylor Center of South Piedmont Community College at 514 N. Washington St. in Wadesboro. The Career Center will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Scott Clontz is the manager of the center.

The location also offers more opportunities for individuals to connect with the great training and education opportunities provided by South Piedmont Community College. The Board and its One-Stop operator, ResCare Workforce Services, are very pleased to be the lease holder and to partner with the Division of Workforce Solutions and South Piedmont Community College for this great new location.

“This is the beginning of a brand new day for workforce services in Anson County,” said Centralina WDB executive director David Hollars. “The Centralina WDB made the commitment to continue to provide workforce services in Anson County no matter what happened with state funding for local centers. We have followed through on this commitment and will continue to honor it for the great citizens and businesses that call Anson County home. This center and its great staff and partners are dedicated to helping people get jobs and help employers find the talent they need to succeed.”

The board and the N.C. Department of Commerce — Division of Workforce Solutions are realigning services to better meet the needs of North Carolina career seekers and employers and this is just one of the steps in doing that.

Career seekers and employers will continue to have access to the same great workforce services as other offices, including no cost Internet access and resume preparation, as well as career counseling and assistance using NCWorks Online.

“Our workforce programs are essential to helping people train for and find employment, so it’s crucial that we develop ways to more efficiently serve our communities,” said Will Collins, executive director of NCWorks. “These adjustments help us succeed in our mission: to strengthen North Carolina’s economy by connecting employers to talented job seekers.”

NCWorks Online is just one of the new features that the center offers. NCWorks Online is a free service that provides several benefits to job seekers and employers. Job seekers can search job posts pulled from thousands of websites and receive alerts through email and text message. Employers can post jobs to find the talent they need, as well as take advantage of real-time labor market information that will assist them in making competitive offers to recruit talented workers. For more information about NCWorks Online, visit www.ncworks.gov.

Many employers and job seekers are already using the NCWorks Online system with great success. This service is free and connects employers with qualified well skilled workers, as well as allowing job seekers to find exciting careers in a variety of industries. The Centralina WDB is also providing access to Centralina Career Headlight (www.centralinacareerheadlight.com). Career Headlight is an innovative tool that, with just a few clicks, matches career seekers and students in the region with in-demand local careers, the skills needed, and local education and skills training

Both the board and the Department of Commerce are analyzing the delivery of workforce services throughout the state and the Centralina WDB region to find efficiencies and align administrative costs where necessary. Steps to improve efficiency include cross-training staff members and implementing the job-search website, NCWorks Online, a one-stop platform to streamline the job search process. These changes will provide increased customer service, more quickly connecting clients to the opportunities they need.
