Things began to turn around in the third quarter when Bearcat Jekev Robinson (#25) made a touchdown and Southern Guilford failed to score. Although Anson’s attempted two-point conversion failed, Robinson’s touchdown brought Anson just ahead of Southern Guilford 15-14. While Southern Guilford did make a single touchdown in the final quarter, bringing the score to 20-15, the Bearcats pushed ahead for a definitive win with two touchdowns, a PAT and a two-point conversion. C.J. Bivens (#1) made one touchdown and the team successfully completed a two-point conversion, making the score 23-20, Bearcats. Then, with about 1:27 left in the quarter, Harris made another touchdown and Alonso made a PAT, bringing the score to the winning 30-20.

Coach Luke Hyatt praised the team’s efforts. “It was a big win for us,” he said. “The kids came out and dug ourselves into a little hole, but then they dug ourselves out of it. We got the ball back and made a lot of plays and controlled the football. Defense did a great job, too. J’Maine Harris played great and got in a couple of first downs in the fourt quarter and was a real good leader.”

This game was part of the 3-A tournament in the 2013 North Carolina High School Football Playoffs. The boys will play the next round in the playoffs against Havelock High School this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
