Basketball seniors Will Smith and Terrill Tillman signed with St. Andrews University on Wednesday.

Coach Brandon Rains said that Smith and Tillman co-captained the basketball team. “They carried us through the good times and the bad,” he said. “They’re on the team together but they’re also best friends.”

Both were three-year varsity players. Smith was also the All-Conference player and came third in the conference.

Both men plan on majoring in accounting. Tillman hopes to open his own accounting firm and try his hand in entrepreneurship. Smith wants to choose something in his field to start with before launching his own business.

Both are excited about starting college. “I want to experience college life and that environment and see how far it takes me,” Smith said.

Tillman agreed. “I’m excited for the college experience and to see how far it takes me,” he said. “Not too many people get to take this to the next level.”

Smith and Tillman both thanked God first for their success. They also recognized family members, coaches, teammates and teachers for supporting them and providing “life lessons.” They both said they were grateful for the chance to play basketball at Anson.

Rains praised both men. “Both are extremely hard workers and did things on and off the court that helped us be successful this year,” he said. “They were both a pleasure to coach.”
