On Oct.1, Anson New Tech High School students had a wonderful opportunity to get an up close and personal interaction with renowned naturalist Eustace Conway.

Conway gave the students a brief look into his life and told of his many adventures as a naturalist and advocate for sustainability. After his presentation, Conway opened up for questions from the students. The students found him to be a fascinating character and inspiring storyteller.

Conway’s visit was a major part of launching Anson New Tech’s school-wide project for this year, “Living Off the Land 2.0.” His traditional ways of subsisting on his own land and his hands-on approach to farming are part of the inspiration for this project. Students, organized into multi-grade level groups, will be creating their own agri-businesses. The students will have to develop business and marketing plans for their agri-business and present it to possible investors. The eventual goal is to create a business that could be used to make New Tech a self-sustaining school.
