With election day only 26 days away, the race is getting tighter. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll showed a close 48 percent favoring President Barack Obama (D), 47 percent for Mitt Romney (R), 2 percent who chose “other,” and 3 percent still undecided, as of a nationwide poll conducted Oct. 11.

Although the Rasmussen Reports show Obama slightly ahead of Romney nationally, North Carolina appears to currently favor Romney, as a telephone survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports showed Romney attracting 51 percent of the North Carolina vote, Obama drawing 48 percent, 1 percent favoring another candidate and 1 one percent still undecided.

The Rasmussen Reports polls have shown Romney to hold statewide favor steadily with 51 percent this fall, with Obama’s results rising from 45 percent in September to 47 percent a week ago to 48 percent on Oct. 11. The statistics may change, however: “Romney voters are a bit more committed to their candidate than Obama supporters,” according to the Rasmussen Reports. “Ninety-five percent of Romney voters are certain they will not change their mind. Only 88 percent of Obama voters are that certain.”

Locally, Anson County is preparing for the upcoming elections. Steve Adams, interim director of the Anson County Board of Elections, said registration has picked up. “We had 150 registrations in September and in October so far we’ve had 122, so registration numbers are picking up,” Adams said on Oct. 11, one day before registration closed. “They always do towards the elections.”

Additionally, Adams reported an increase in absentee ballots from 75 at the Board of Elections meeting on Oct. 2 to 115 on Oct. 11, all of which he said have been processed. He still hasn’t received confirmation from families of deceased voters to have them removed from the voter rolls. One-Stop Voting Training was held Oct. 4; Adams said that as of now, “everyone that is supposed to work is going to work.”
