Celebrate agriculture this weekend at Ag Expo and Fair

The annual fair, expo and youth livestock show are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at the 2012 Anson Ag Expo and Fair. In addition, special events new and old, including the returning lumberjack competition, are also planned.

The weekend’s festivities kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Lockhart-Taylor Center of SPCC. Starting on Thursday, fair entries will be received in the Ingram Room of the Lockhart-Taylor Center from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Friday’s schedule includes:

Educational Exhibits Registration & Set Up, 4 p.m.

Fair and Expo Open to the Public, 6–9 p.m. Scarecrow Contest Registration, 6–7 p.m.

Youth Creative Squash Challenge Registration, 7–8 p.m.

Pee Wee Goat Show Weigh-In, 4–5:15 p.m.

Pee Wee Goat Show, 5:30 p.m.

Youth Goat Show Weigh-In, 4–5:30 p.m.

4-H Youth Goat Show, 6 p.m.

Food will be offered by Deep Creek Masonic Lodge 382, Order of the Eastern Star and Bella’s Concessions. Menus include hot dogs, sausage dogs, popcorn, kettle corn, pork skins, lemonade, shaved ice and drinks. In addition, the State Employees’ Credit Union “Fat Cat” mascot will be visiting.

Saturday will include:

Fair Viewing, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Educational Booth Judging, 9 a.m. (open to the public)

Scarecrow Contest Judging, 9 a.m. (open to the public)

Adult Local Foods Bake-Off Registration, 9–10 a.m.

Youth Creative Squash Challenge Judging, 10 a.m. (open to the public)

Adult Local Foods Bake-Off Judging, 11 a.m. (open to the public)

Youth Scavenger Hunt Registration, 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.

Youth Scavenger Hunt Bicycle Drawing, noon

Kiddie Tractor Pull Registration, 10:45 a.m. Kiddie Tractor Pull, 11 a.m.

South Atlantic Woodsmen’s Association Lumberjack Competition, 12:30 p.m.

Pee Wee Heifer Show Check-In, 8:30–9:15 a.m.

Pee Wee Heifer Show, 9:30 a.m.

Youth Heifer Show Check-In, 8:30–9:45 a.m.

4-H Youth Heifer Show, 10 a.m.

Lamb Weigh-In, 8:30–10:30 a.m.

4-H Youth Lamb Show, Immediately Following Heifer Show

Outside vendors will include, Anson County Partnership for Children, Tractor Supply, Cub Scout Pack 530, Food Lion, and the Cooperative Extension booth, which will also serve as registration and an information center.

Celebrate Anson Agriculture T-shirts will be on sale in the Extension booth, as well as ham and sausage biscuits on Saturday morning by Extension Secretaries’ Association.

Inside the Ingram Room, other vendors include the Anson County Beekeepers Association, Anson County Farm Bureau, Anson County Farm Service Agency and South Piedmont Community College. Vendor applications are still being received, so there may be more to offer.

Come out and enjoy the fun this weekend. This year promises something for everybody. Celebrate agriculture in Anson!
