Mr. and Mrs. Charles Alvin Nance of Peachland announce the engagement of their daughter, Allison Nicole Nance, to Randall William Thigpen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy David Thigpen Sr. of Milledgeville, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. James Dean Smithey, of Boomer. Nance is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nance of Peachland and Betty Lockhart of Polkton.
The bride-to-be is a 2000 honor graduate of Anson High School. She earned her B.A. degree in public policy in 2004 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2009 with her Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She is currently employed with New Hanover County as a child protective services social worker in Wilmington and is pursuing her Clinical Social Work licensure.
The groom-to-be is the grandson of Marilyn Durden and the late Otis Thigpen of Milledgeville, Ga. and Elton and Elsie Widger of Boomer. Thigpen is a 2003 graduate of Wilkes Central High School and a 2007 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he earned his B.A. degree in criminal justice. Thigpen served a tour of active duty in Afghanistan with the United States Navy. He is currently in the United States Naval Reserves and is employed with Brunswick County as a child protective services social worker in Bolivia.
The wedding is planned for Oct. 20, 2012 on the Cape Fear River in Wilmington at The Watermark Marina and Yacht Club.
