The Anson County Historical Society was presented with a painting of the late Henry Little “Hank” Wall Jr., which the society hung in its Wadesboro High School Memorabilia room in the Leavitt House.

Historical Society acting director John Dunlap remembered his friend fondly in a speech. Wall was a “lover of Wadesboro High School and Clemson University, [the] Anson County Historical Society, [and] Wadesboro,” Dunlap said. “[He was] a great historian, 25-year veteran of the United States Army, and at one time stationed in the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. He was a collector of many memorabilia and artifacts depicting student life and activities, as you well know, here at the Wadesboro High School.”

Wall was also a historian at the historical society and author of “The Way it Was” street maps of Wadesboro, according to Dunlap.

Several members of the society, most of whom had known Wall personally, gathered for the unveiling of the portrait, painted by society member Cliff Harkey’s daughter, Susan Harkey-Higgins. After the unveiling, members filed into the room to see the portrait hung on the wall and admire it and the other memorabilia in the room, dedicated to items from Wadesboro High School.

The Wadesboro High School Memorabilia collection is one of several in the museum. The Leavitt House also houses the Tom Little artifacts, the F.C. Allen Arrowhead collection and others.
