After a fundraiser last Saturday raised $1,600 for the families affected by a tragic July 15 accident, checks were awarded on Wednesday to the accident’s survivors, Rose Robinson and Cheryl Bailey, and Robinson’s daughter, Tameka L. Little, who lost two daughters in the accident.
Judy Little, owner of You Are So Special salon in Wadesboro, hosted and organized the Sept. 1 fundraiser. Christine Hall, a cosmetologist and owner of Hair Keepers salon in Wadesboro, helped Little distribute the checks.
“When something like this happens,” Hall said, “the community comes together, and it’s a wonderful thing to see.”
Little said that the fundraiser was a huge success, with people coming in and out all day to drop off items for sale and to make their own purchases. In fact, some folks showed up after the fundraiser was over to donate more items.
Bailey, who was driving the Chrysler van that hit the Robinson family’s Audi head-on July 15, said she is still struggling with the aftermath of the accident, and so is her family. Attending the fundraiser on Saturday was the first time she’d left her house, other than to go to her doctor’s office, since the accident occurred.
The accident seriously injured Bailey, who uses a wheelchair or walker to get around after dislocating her hip, and Rose Robinson of Ansonville, who was a front-seat passenger when the wreck occurred. Killed in the accident were Rose Robinson’s husband, Ryan Robinson, their daughter, Latavia Robinson, 15, and grandchildren, Latresha Wall, 13, and Taleya Wall, 10.
When Little presented the check to Bailey, she said she was “so thankful but I feel so undeserving.”
“We wanted to do a little something to help out,” Little said. “These families have all been through so much.”
