Drew Tucker, 12, of Peachland, competed in the North Carolina Swimming 14 & Under Age Group Championships Feb. 17-19 in Greensboro.
He qualified in five events: 100 Butterfly, 100 Free, 50 Butterfly, 50 Free and 50 back. Held at the new Greensboro Aquatic Center, he competed against over 300 of the top 11-12 boys in the state. Drew made finals in three events, medaled in the 50 Free and placed 10th overall in the 50 Butterfly and 50 Back.
He swims for Wingate Aquatics Aqua-Dogs who practice at Wingate University.
Drew has qualified in five events for the Eastern Section Southern Zone Age Group Championships in March and will be joined by qualified swimmers from Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia. These will also be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Drew is a seventh-grader at East Union Middle School, and the son of Jack and Mechele Tucker. He is the grandson of Patt and Dennis Clapper of Monroe and Robert and Sarah Long on Polkton.
