After a flurry of protest at the most recent school board meeting and a call for reconsideration of graduation arrangements by Chairwoman Lisa Davis, no changes have been made as of yet.
“Any changes will be discussed and communicated at rehearsal practice (on June 8),” Superintendent Greg Firn said Monday.
Citizens protested the current commencement arrangements at the Board of Education’s meeting May 29. (See related story, this page.)
After the portion of the meeting reserved for public comments was over, Davis asked the administration to reconsider the current graduation ceremony in light of these comments.
The current plan calls for district-wide graduation June 9 at the school stadium.
The gates will close at 8:25 a.m. with no more admission to the grandstands and the procession will begin immediately.
Students should be in their assigned area by 7:45 a.m. and their assigned place in line by 8 a.m.
Students are required to conform to a dress code. Decorations on caps will not be allowed.
Female students may wear dress skirts or dresses. They may wear dress blue or black shoes with closed toes, no sandals allowed. Dresses or skirts should not hang below the hem of the gown and the neckline should not be visible above the gown. Collars must be sewn in the gown and hose, if worn, should be skin color with no decorations. Jewelry may not extend below the neckline of the gown.
Male students may wear dark blue or black pants and dark blue or black dress shoes. Socks should be dark blue or black with no bold patterns. They should wear plain, solid, dark neck ties with no patterns. String or bow ties are prohibited. They should wear white shirts. Jewelry over the shirt, tie or gown is prohibited. Jackets are also prohibited.
There will be three student speakers, one from each school.
