Anson County Schools Interim Superintendent Michael Freeman was the motivational speaker for the GED class held at the Lemuel Training Center in Morven on Feb. 14.
He showed a great deal of interest in these students by letting them know obstacles are only stepping stones for higher heights. He shared his experiences he encountered in school, only to let them know being shown love and care can stimulate an interest to push forward. “These types of interests prepared me to continue my studies and go to college,” he said. “My family and Mrs. Altheria Patton were very instrumental in me achieving my education. “
Freeman stated, “Hardships may have caused a delay in you getting your high school diploma, or other struggles in life, but the opportunity still presents itself in the GED program, held at Lemuel Community Center and other locations.”
Students were very excited and appreciative for the encouraging words. Pleze Huntley expressed the sentiments of the class by saying, “We have got to do this thing.”
Words of thanks were expressed by Lucille Melton, the oldest student, and a presentation was given by Pleze Huntley for the GED class and instructor Sylvia Pratt.
Freeman said he was amazed to see the newly renovated structure, formerly known as the Morven School, now as the Lemuel Community Center, a great asset to the community.
Pratt stated that the visit was an added treat for the enthusiastic students on Valentine’s Day. The class motto is: We can. Yes, we can. We know we can!
