Young fishermen turn out for fishing rodeo at wildlife refuge
Pee Dee Wildlife Refuge welcomed 22 young fishermen to its Youth Fishing Rodeo on May 4. Although there were some afternoon showers the kids toughed it out, waiting through the short rain showers and then heading back to fish again, according to Janet Gilreath, an administrative support specialist at Pee Dee. Wadesboro Rotary Club hosts another successful Sporting Clays Competition
Buchanan Shoals was a beautiful setting on March 23 for the third annual Wadesboro Rotary Club Sporting Clays Competition. Despite morning downpours, by start time the sun was shining and the 36 competitors enjoyed beautiful weather and a great event. AHS girls’ soccer team celebrates Senior Night
The Bearcats took on the Weddington Warriors in a girls soccer game on April 23, losing 11-0. The girls celebrated senior night shortly before the game started. This loss leaves the girls with an overall season score of 0-11 and an overall conference score of 0-8. The girls are ranked 990 out of 1114 nationally and 269 out of 315 in North Carolina as of April 22, according to high school sports website MaxPreps.com.

The Lady Bearcats softball tema played hard at their April 23 game varsity softball game versus Weddington but lost 2-0. Neither team had any runs until the third inning, when the Weddington Warriors finally made a run. Weddington fans commented on the tough game and pitches from Anson player number 7. And all three times Anson player number 9 stepped out to bat, Weddington fans commented, “Oh, she’s that little speedy one. She’s fast .”...

The Bearcats have had a tough season, losing their April 23 game against Parkwood but bouncing back the next day to take on the same opponent, this time winning 14-6. Peachland eighth-grader medals at swim championships
Drew Tucker, an eighth-grader at East Union Middle School, medaled at the Blue Ridge Swim League Championships held at Mecklenburg Aquatic Center on March 22. He won gold medals in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 Free; the 100 back, 100 and 200 Fly and a Bronze in the 400 Individual Medley. He was awarded the conference MVP trophy for the13-14 boys division. Tuesday — AHS vs. Sun Valley The girls’ soccer team played the Sun Valley Spartans on April 16 for a home conference game, losing 9-0 against the Spartans.
