Toys for Tots now open in new location

The Anson County Toys for Tots campaign held an open house in its new location Oct. 14. The location, on U.S. 74 next to Captain D’s, gives the organization a spacious environment to sort toys for needy children this holiday season.“We had over 2,000 applicants last year and we’ll probably double that this year,” said Bernice Bennett, a member of the Toys for Tots board of directors.However, she said that by this time last year, Toys for Tots had twice as many donations as it does now, pointed out secretary Jennifer Tarlton.

 

BRLC to host second ‘God’s Glorious Bike Ride’

Burnsville Recreation & Learning Center’s bikers and volunteers will celebrate fall on Oct. 25 with God’s Glorious Motorcycle Ride.The God’s Glorious Charity Ride invites all bikers and community citizens to come together, make new friends and raise funds to support the BRLC Emergency Pantry and the Kids Cafe.Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. The official opening ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by the ride at 11 a.m.

Bearcats’ losing streak continues

The Anson High School varsity football team lost a rescheduled game against Piedmont Monday night with a final score of 29-19. Anson County prosecutors have decided not to seek the death penalty for Eddie Helms of Marshville, accused of killing John T. Griffin III of Peachland in 1988.
