Sen. McLaurin hosts first meeting of Young Leaders Advisory Council

On Tuesday night, Sen. Gene McLaurin hosted what he hopes will be the first of many future meetings of what he calls the Young Leaders Advisory Council. The council is made up of business and community leaders in their 20s, 30s and 40s throughout Anson County and other neighboring counties.McLaurin said he got the idea from a similar group of young professionals in Scotland County, which is also part of the five-county district he serves in the N.C. Senate. “I’ve been impressed by the number of young people taking on leadership roles in their community,” McLaurin said. “I feel it would be a great opportunity for you all.”

 

State legislators ranked on effectiveness, attendance

All state senators and representatives were ranked on their effectiveness and attendance for 2013 in a report released by the N.C. One arrested, four still at large in countywide drug roundup

UPDATE: On March 27, the Anson County Sheriff’s Office led a major drug bust, the culmination of an eight-month long investigation. The Lilesville Fire Department recently received a $5,000 donation from North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation. Anson County’s unemployment drops 1.1 percent in February

Anson County’s unemployment rate took a steep drop in February, down to 7.5 percent, according to a report released Wednesday morning by the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Labor and Economic Analysis Division.The 7.5 rate is down 1.1 percent from January’s rate of 8.6 percent. When compared to the same time period last year, Anson’s unemployment is down 4 percent from the February 2013 rate of 11.5 percent.
