Anson High School’s football season kicks off this Friday night with a home game against Forest Hills.

This will be the team’s first game under new head coach Ralph Jackson.

Since he started earlier this year, after coaching at South Stanly, Jackson has talked about Anson’s return to dominance, which he hopes will start with this weekend’s game.

“Our guys are working hard,” he said at a back-to-school event on Saturday.

The team has been working all summer, with some players even out on the field at 1 a.m., Jackson said.

He added that he’s focusing his team not only on athletics, but also academics, in order to prepare them to be positive role models in the community.

“A lot of the things we’re doing with these young men will make them young men of the community,” he said. “I’m proud to be part of this team.”

AHS Principal Chris Stinson also said the team is well-prepared for Friday’s match-up, as well as the rest of the season.

“We are ready for Forest Hills Friday night,” Stinson said. “I tell you, I watched Stephone Anthony [an AHS standout who now plays for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL] in a press conference last night. There are no finer people than those coming out of Anson County.”
