Three people are in jail after police say they broke into and stole from a local church on Wednesday.

Tommy Chambers, 55, of Polkton, April Elaine Baucom, 32, of Marshville and Jimmy Alexander Sturdivant, 63, also of Polkton were arrested by Polkton police on Wednesday at around 2:30-2:45 a.m., according to arrest warrants.

The trio allegedly broke into Church of Christ in Polkton and stole a Sharp projector and a Brothers fax machine valued at a combined $1,200, warrants say.

Police found the three suspects with the stolen property, and Chambers had a pair of vise grip pliers thought to be “an implement of housebreaking,” according to arrest warrants.

All three were charged with felony possession of stolen goods, felony larceny, felony breaking and entering, and felony breaking and entering into a place of worship. Chambers was also charged with felony possession of burglary tools.

The three are being held in the Anson County Jail with court appearances scheduled for Sept. 10 at 9:30 a.m. Chambers is being held under a combined $42,500 secured bond and Sturdivant and Baucom both under $40,000 secured bonds.
