The Bearcats had an off night Friday, as nothing went right for them against the Porter Ridge Pirates, losing 31-6.

Porter Ridge won the coin toss and made a good start in the first quarter. They made their first touchdown less than four minutes into the first quarter with a 19-yard run. A good kick put the score at 7-0. The Bearcats received the ball, but did not keep it for long. A fumble gave the ball back to Porter Ridge, and they made a 33-yard field goal bringing the score to 10-0. The Bearcats continued to fight for a touchdown, but penalties pushed them back too far to do anything before the close of the first quarter.

The Bearcats started the second quarter with the ball, but still could not get a break. Porter Ridge then proceeded to make a slow fight for another touchdown with a four-yard run and extra point, the score 17-0 with seven minutes left on the clock. The Bearcats quickly gained some yards, but an interception by Porter Ridge ruined any chance for a Bearcat touchdown in the second quarter. The second quarter ended with a score of 17-0.

The third quarter was a draw, with no touchdowns for either team. The Bearcats were to receive the ball in the fourth quarter, but another fumble gave it back to Porter Ridge. They took the advantage and scored another touchdown and extra point on a 12-yard pass, scoring 24-0. The Bearcats finally caught some luck and made a touchdown with a four-yard run by Brandon Ellerbe. The kick failed, however, and the score was 24-6. Porter Ridge made a final five-yard touchdown pass and extra point at the end of the fourth quarter. Porter Ridge won with a final score of 31-6.

Anson Bearcats finished the game with 32 rushes for 179 yards, and 21 passes, 11 completed, for 96 yards. There were 31 carries for 111 yards, and total yardage for the game was: Anson 172 yards and Porter Ridge with 275 yards.

Anson will not be going to the state playoffs, and  the last game of the season will be away against Parkwood at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 5.
