Fred Thompson, Ph.D., president of Anson Community Hospital, recently earned re-certification as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). This distinction represents his continued achievement in meeting high standards of professional development and excellence as a healthcare executive.

Dr. Thompson was board certified after successfully completing the criteria of the American College of Healthcare Executives’ comprehensive and multifaceted credentialing program. He met these requirements through his participation in continuing education and healthcare and community affairs, his tenure as a member of the ACHE, peer review, adherence to an ethical code of conduct, and successful completion of a comprehensive exam that measured his knowledge and skills in healthcare management. Meeting the requirements of this voluntary credentialing program and earning the distinction of Fellow indicates Thompson’s competency and commitment to the healthcare profession.

Dr. Thompson has been the president of Anson Community Hospital since 1995. Over his career he has served in a number of executive positions including president of Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill., as the assistant administrator of the Hazard Regional Medical Center, Hazard, Ky., and as a vice president with La Grange Memorial Health System, La Grange, Ill.

Dr. Thompson holds a Doctorate in Health Services from Walden University and an M.B.A. from Roosevelt University. He is a licensed nursing home administrator and serves as both a resume reviewer and volunteer networker for the ACHE. In addition, he has served on the board of directors for the North Carolina Hospital Association.

Locally, Dr. Thompson is a member of the Wadesboro Rotary Club, where he serves as the chairman of the scholarship committee and is a past president. He is also on the United Way board of directors, the Anson County Partnership for Children board and executive committee, and is chair of Healthy Ansonians.
