Marianne Elizabeth Edwards and Richard Benjamin Potter were united in marriage on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at Red Hill Baptist Church in Ansonville. Rev. Rodney Clements and Dr. Boyce Earnhardt (grandfather of the groom) officiated the 4 p.m. ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy R. Edwards Jr. of Ansonville. Her grandparents are Laura Edwards and the late Guy R. Edwards Sr. of Polkton, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Cowan Jr. of Durham. She is a 2007 graduate of West Stanly High School and a 2010 honors graduate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she received a B.S./B.A. in business management. She is employed with Carroll Financial Associates in Charlotte as a client relationship manager.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Potter of Indian Trail. His grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. Boyce Earnhardt of Indian Trail and Mr. and Mrs. Gabe Shapiro of Charlotte, and the late Harris Potter of Charlotte. He is a 2005 graduate of Piedmont High School and a 2009 Cum Laude graduate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he received a B.A. in history with a minor in secondary education. He is pursuing a dual master’s degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in biblical studies and Christian thought. He teaches at Grace Academy in Matthews and is a building manager for Gordon-Conwell.

The bride wore a diamond white Maggie Sottero gown. The gown featured lace over satin with Swarovski crystals, seed beads, sequins,and rice pearls throughout the gown. The sweetheart neckline was gently ruched and the corset back was combined with a chapel train. She wore a headband of pearls and crystals. Her bouquet featured roses and miniature calla lilies. She also wore her mother’s 100-year-old 2-carat diamond ring that is a family heirloom.

The Maid of Honor was Alison Furr. Bridesmaids were Lauran Hardison and Eryn Edwards, cousins of the bride, Elizabeth Potter, sister of the groom, and Kayleigh Flora, friend of the bride.

The Best Man was Gary Potter, father of the groom. Groomsmen were Matthew Potter, brother of the groom, Ethan Hughes, cousin of the groom, Tyler Dunn and Jeff Long, friends of the groom.

Register attendants were Kayla Heafner and Katie Huneycutt, friends of the bride. Reception attendants were Gail Werner, aunt of the bride, and Christina Hunter, cousin of the bride. The beautiful wedding music was performed by Danielle Clements who served as pianist for the ceremony. Elaine Johnson and Janet Wright played the violin and keyboard during the reception. Nicole Hyatt was the wedding director.

Honored guests traveling from New York and Florida were Ryan Hunter and Christina Hunter, cousins of the bride.

A bridal shower at Red Hill Baptist Church and a Bridesmaids’ Luncheon at the Sullivan Place were hosted by the bride’s aunts: Gail Werner, Sharon Edwards, Cynthia Bower, Fonda Hardison and Ronda Scheil.

On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the parents of the groom at the church fellowship hall.

A dinner reception followed immediately after the ceremony at the church fellowship hall and was hosted by the bride’s parents. The bride’s father and the Maid of Honor toasted the couple. Following the dinner, a sparkler and fireworks display concluded the evening.

After returning from a honeymoon trip to Orlando, Fla., the couple is making their home in Charlotte.
