The Anson County Commission approved a work bid for the water filtration plant July 9.

The project shall include “a new 12’ by 14’ building and electrical, grading, retaining wall, and drainage to provide a new power distribution feed including service gear, switchboard, and transfer switch,” according to a letter from Hobbs, Upchurch & Associates to County Manager Lawrence Gatewood. The project bid by Turner Murphy Co., Inc., was $443,622, the lowest of three.

After a citizen complained in May about the noise from neighbors using recreational vehicles on a nearby property, the Commission asked County Attorney Scott Forbes to review the county’s noise ordinance and see if it needs to be strengthened. After discussion, the Commission asked him to work with Sheriff Tommy Allen and present a revised ordinance at the August meeting.

Commissioner Jarvis Woodburn was appointed the Commission’s voting delegate at the meeting of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners in August.

Gatewood informed the commissioners in his monthly report that he would be joining the board of Smart Start in August. He also informed them that from Aug. 27 to Sept. 7, no lane closures would be allowed on U.S. 74 in Anson because of the Democratic National Convention to be held in Charlotte.

The Commission agreed to hold its annual meeting at Cooperative Extension Oct. 2 at 5 p.m., beginning with a report to the people followed by the regular meeting at 6 p.m.
