The Wadesboro Police Department (WPD) is investigating the death of a man on Saturday.

Prince McBride, 48, died of stab wounds at Anson Community Hospital (ACH), according to a statement from Wadesboro Police Chief Janie Schutz. His last known address was in Lilesville.

At approximately 9:07 p.m., officers responded to a 911 hang-up call from a residence on Ballard Street and a disturbance was heard in the background. Officers found many people in the street and found McBride bleeding profusely from an abdominal wound outside 613 Ballard St.

The two officers called for an ambulance and while one initiated first aid, the other took Dexter Little, who resides at the home, in custody. Little was holding a knife in his hand and standing on the porch.

Investigators with the WPD are working with the State Bureau of Investigation.

Little was taken to ACH and was released. Schutz said his wounds were not serious.

“This is not a homicide investigation,” Schutz said in an interview. She called it a “death investigation, as of right now” and said all possibilities were being considered when asked if there was evidence this was a case of self-defense.

She praised the conduct of the two officers who responded to the call. She said a meeting is planned with the office of the District Attorney to consider any possible charges today and more information will be released.
