Roderick Skyyler Polk, 30, of Wadesboro reportedly drowned in Lake Tillery in Montgomery County on Aug. 22.
The Montgomery County 911 Center received a call from a man who witnessed the drowning at 8:12 p.m. Wednesday. According to WFMY-TV 2 out of Greensboro, the witness to the drowning said that a male and female were riding a jet ski when it flipped over, and both were thrown into the lake. The female was able to swim to safety, but the man, who had been operating the jet ski went under and never resurfaced. Neither individual was wearing a life jacket.
Montgomery County Rescue personnel used sonar technology and other techniques to recover the body around 12:45 a.m., WFMY-TV reported.
The body was sent to Chapel Hill Thursday morning for an autopsy.
