The Anson County Veteran’s Council will be leading the community this year in honoring Anson County veterans on Veterans Day, Nov. 12.
The parade, beginning at 10 a.m., is being sponsored by Wadesboro Motors, Inc. The car dealership is located on U.S. 74. Some of the parade entries thus far include Buffalo Soldier’s horses and covered wagons, from last year’s parade, the ever-impressive yellow motorcycles of the Buffalo Soldiers, church vans and buses carrying their church veterans, souped up lawnmowers for fun and other military vehicles. The Anson County High School ROTC honor guard will lead the parade followed by World War II veterans as the grand marshals. The ROTC drill team will also be performing in the parade. The parade will line up on Morven Road and move from Morven Road left onto Morgan Street, right onto Washington, left onto Martin, and left onto Greene Street.
Following the parade, the Honor Ceremony will be held at the front entrance of the newly renovated courthouse at 11 a.m. The first annual “Anson County Veteran of the Year” award will be presented during the ceremony. Nomination forms for this prestigious award may be found at Chamber of Commerce, HW Little Hardware, Wadesboro Town Hall, and Wadesboro Lumber and Barns.
Immediately following the ceremony, there will be delicious food and local entertainment at the Ray Shelton ball field. There will be also numerous door prizes, informational booths and military displays for the Veterans and their families.
Wadesboro Lumber and Barns, owned and operated by Dock Donahue, has graciously donated a 8 x 8 storage building for the grand prize. A solid oat sewing center, for the veteran’s spouse, has also been donated by a local non-profit organization. You do not need to be present to win.
When you worship at the church of your choice, thank a veteran for the right to do so. When you speak your opinion at a public place a veteran has fought for you to have that right. Let the people of Anson County come together on Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. and show our appreciation to our hometown veterans. Honor them with your presence at the parade and the Honor Ceremony.
