The Anson County Sheriff’s Office’s annual Youth Skeet Shoot was a big success.

More than 30 youths, ages 17 and under, signed up for the event, which was held Oct. 20 at Devil’s Rib Hunting Preserve in Peachland. Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen said that this was the largest turnout in the 10-year history of the event. “We had a big group of shooters and a much larger group of spectators, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and the general public. Our volunteers gave away 150 hot dogs with all the trimmings. The skill level of these kids was astonishing. Many of them will be adult champion shooters one day.”

Sheriff Allen went on to say he wanted to thank the volunteers who helped put the skeet shoot together, including his staff who were there all day and the event’s main sponsors: Professional Pipe, Pee Dee Electric and Allen’s General Store, who made the whole thing possible. He wanted to especially thank Devil’s Rib Hunting Preserve that provided their personnel and the hunting preserve all day long and donated all the skeet.

Winners for the event were as follows: Ages 14 and under, Jaxon Cook, first place, and Michael Preslar, second place; ages 15 and 16, James Buccolo, first place, and Dalton Rodenberger, second place; ages 17 and 18, Chris Mullis, first place, and John Harrington, second place. The overall champion was Tony Beachum.
