WADESBORO — Joseph Rodney Winfield, 77, died on Oct. 26, 2012 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Brown Creek Baptist Church, where he and his wife were married 55 years ago, with Rev. Curtis Williams, Rev. Rocky Carpenter and Dr. Leon Smith officiating. Interment followed in Anson Memorial Park.

The family greeted friends Sunday night at Leavitt Funeral Home.

Winfield was born Oct. 5, 1935 in Anson County, a son of the late Edward Liles Winfield and the late Emmie Susan Ratliff Winfield. He was a graduate of Polkton High School and Wingate College, and had a long and productive career in accounting, having retired from J.B. Watson Company in Wadesboro with more than 40 years of service. He attended Harmony Community Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. Surviving are his wife, Annie Lee Smith Winfield of the home; his sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Anita Martin Winfield and Jeff and Christy Moore Winfield, both of Polkton; his grandchildren, Kevin, Gary and Kacie Winfield; his great-grandchildren, Bailey, Slade and Kamryn Winfield; and his niece and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Edward Winfield and William Liles Winfield. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
